Join Me in Supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
On September 30, 2023, I will be participating in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention “Out of the Darkness Palm Beach County Experience” to prevent suicide and support AFSP’s mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.
Why am I supporting this cause?
Suicide has impacted my life. If someone in your life has committed suicide, or you know someone who had someone in their life commit suicide, then you know the impact it has on family, friends and love ones. It leaves the “hole that can never be filled” and changes that person forever.
The really sad thing is suicide is usually absolutely preventable if proper treatment is received. But because of the stigma of mental illness there is a huge gap in people getting proper treatment. 18.2% of our adult population currently suffers from some form of mental illness. The largest mental health provider in Palm Beach County is the Sheriff’s office.
This is a fundamentally flawed approach and needs to be fixed.
