For those of you who have lived in Florida, or were born in Florida, know the impact tropical weather has from time to time on our lives.  The most significant tropical event in my lifetime was Hurricane Andrew.

Originally aimed at Palm Beach, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew did not veer North as expected and slammed into Homestead, FL and devastated much of South Florida.  I was living in Coconut Grove at the time while studying at the University of Miami.  I remember boats were washed 3 – 4 blocks from the shore which was a clear sign to me of the strength of this storm.

To celebrate it’s 21st birthday, my good friend Amateur Chief and Future TV Personality,  J. Barrett Carter created this alcoholic beverage to commemorate this significant event:

My "Big Brother", Scott Mellett, mourns the loss of his fantasy.

“Hurricane Andrew”:

In a mortar and pestle, grind up seaweed and sea salt.  Wet the rim of the shot glass.  Dip the rim of the shot glass into the seaweed and sea salt mixture.  Put in a half ounce of Jaegermeister and top it off with an eight of an ounce of 151.  Light.  Extinguish.  Cool.  Enjoy.

Cheers!
