State of Florida v. Raymond Alan Jones

UPDATE 8/30/13

Just received this letter:

Raymond Alan Jones pleads GUILTY!
Raymond Alan Jones pleads GUILTY!

Normally when I go to Court, I am in the role of an attorney.

On Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 I will be participating in a criminal trial as the victim/witness involving an incident that occurred on December 14, 2012 at 5:30 am.  I was taking my 11 year old to school early because his class was taking a field trip to Epcot.  The events that happened next were surreal and we were lucky to walk away from a horrible accident unscathed.

I should have known something was up when a car was heading the wrong direction on the road aimed straight at me.  It was still dark and I saw headlights heading straight at us. Attempting to avoid a head on collision I swerved.  His truck hit my van and we both began to spin.  Our vehicles collided a 2nd time during the spin.  When both vehicles stopped, something even more incredible happened.  Instead of driving away, Jones put his car in reverse and raced towards my van and hit us a third time.  Then he fled.

I believe in Karma.  I believe if you do right, you will eventually be rewarded with some sort of positive energy.

Fortunately, neither my son nor myself were physically injured.

Fortunately, there was a marked police car right behind me that witnessed the entire incident who gave chase to Raymond Alan Jones after he fled the scene and arrested him.

Fortunately, a Good Samaritan was there to help me and my son get out of harms way after the accident.

Raymond Alan Jones, charged with DUI w/ property damage and fleeing scene of accident.

Ironically, if you google “Raymond Alan Jones” his webpage says he is charged with HOMICIDE-NEGLIG MANSL-VEH – DUI CAUSE DEATH FAIL TO GIVE INFO RENDER AID.  That’s the same charge John Goodman, who was represented by Roy Black was convicted of.  In our case, there was no death and these seems to be just misinformation. Karma.

This will be a new experience for me.  (And my 11 year old who is also under subpoena).

Mr. Jones will have one more opportunity to accept a plea.  If not, the testimony should start Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 1pm in Courtroom 4D before the Honorable August Bonavita at the Main Courthouse, 205 North Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.

The trial is open to the public.  If you are interested in seeing me out of uniform, or interested in how our criminal system works, come on over.  I will update this post if a plea is taken or the trial is set for some other day.

Keep in mind, life inevitably throws us curve balls, unexpected circumstances that remind us to expect the unexpected. I’ve come to understand these curve balls are the beautiful unfolding of both karma and current.

I look forward to the events about to unfold before me.

**Disclaimer:  In Florida, Raymond Alan Jones is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

  1. Eddie, I don’t usually comment on your essays, although I do enjoy them. But this time I am moved to write. Thank you for sharing your life experiences. You know just the right way to tell your story, to connect with your reader, and to capture that connection. As an ex-prosecutor, I truly hope that your courtroom experience, and that of your child, will be a rewarding one; somehow I know, given what I know of you, that you will ensure that it is so! (Did he make his ride to Epcot?)

  2. Dear Mr. Stephens, I am so glad to hear that you and your son are well, good luck in this matter. I enjoy your case law (and doggie) updates, be well.
